The Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa (AFSA) was founded in June 1996 as a non-profit organisation aimed at resolving disputes speedily and cost effectively.

As a non-profit company it offers a comprehensive and highly professional administered dispute resolution service at an affordable price.

The head office is conveniently situated in the Sandton CBD, with AFSA branch offices in Durban, Cape Town and Pretoria to serve each of these regions.

AFSA has firmly established itself as a progressive and credible arbitral institution which enjoys both national and international recognition.

In June 2015, under the guidance and coordination form China Law Society, Shanghai International Arbitration Centre (SHIAC), AFSA and some other stakeholders signed a Cooperation Agreement in Beijing to commence the cooperation in building a China-Africa Joint Dispute Resolution Mechanism – China-Africa Joint Arbitration Centre. On 26 November 2015, SHIAC established CAJAC Shanghai in China and AFSA established CAJAC Johannesburg in South Africa. Beijing International Arbitration Centre (BIAC), Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA), and Nairobi Centre of International Arbitration (NCIA) have since joined the mechanism to become CAJAC Beijing, CAJAC Shenzhen and CAJAC Nairobi.
