The Uganda Communication Backbone Network
and E-Government Phase V project, undertaken by a Chinese enterprise, has
officially commenced. At the launch ceremony held in the northeastern Moroto
region, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni expressed gratitude for China’s
continued support in promoting connectivity in Uganda.
Huawei Uganda’s technical specialist Gerald
Ola noted that the project would enable more remote regions of Uganda to
benefit from digital transformation, significantly bridging the urban-rural
digital divide. “For example, in healthcare, the internet can facilitate remote
consultations and resource sharing, thus improving access to medical services,”
he stated.
