16 August 2018 UNAIDS Orientation Session – Dinner GALA

On 16 August 2018, in cooperation with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Center for International Exchange and Cooperation of the Ministry of Health of China, UNAIDS held a six-day orientation session on access to medicines and the promotion of localized production in Beijing. Representatives from African health, drug regulation, investment, international cooperation, government departments and international organizations, including Nigeria, Zambia, Ghana, Malawi, Kenya and Zimbabwe, participated in the orientation meeting. The orientation meeting is in line with the highlights of a series of high-level meetings on China-Africa cooperation held in 2018.

CABC’s newly launched Health Alliance sponsored a dinner Gala which brought together the Alliance members, African health sectors’ representatives as well UNAIDS Officials. CABC Secretary General and Vice-Chairman Mr Eric Wang Xiaoyong opened the evening with welcoming remarks and was followed by Nigerian Health Minister Issac Adewole and UNAIDS Acting Deputy Executive Director Timothy Martineau who encouraged to Chinese pharmaceutical companies to work with African leaders and see, experience and explore the potential for local production of medicines, with the ultimate goal of improving access to medicines.
