CABC and Haishan Group Join Hands with Angola First Lady’s Office for “Free to Shine” Campaign

On September 16, 2020, the Office of the First Lady of Angola, together with Haishan Group and the China-Africa Business Council (CABC), held a donation ceremony for the Free to Shine initiative at Haishan Group’s headquarters in Angola. The event was attended by Dr. Antónica, Advisor to the First Lady and Head of Social Affairs, General Fançony, Security and Logistics Director of the Presidency, and other senior officials.

As part of the strategic cooperation agreement, Haishan Group donated 115 billion Angolan kwanzas in cash, while the CABC-Haishan Group consortium donated 10,000 care packages worth approximately 250,000 US dollars. Each package included baby cribs (with mosquito nets), infant clothing, diapers, wet wipes, and bathing supplies, designed to encourage pregnant women to seek free health screenings and help prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV. The mosquito-net-equipped cribs also support malaria prevention, in line with CABC’s Dr. Panda public health program.

The Free to Shine campaign is led by the First Lady of Angola, under the framework of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) and the African Union, aiming to halve mother-to-child HIV transmission by 2021 and end it by 2030. Since 2018, CABC has maintained long-term collaboration with OAFLAD and was recognized with an official certificate for its contributions to eliminating pediatric AIDS. This donation reflects China-Africa solidarity in public health, social welfare, and sustainable development for women and children.
