Recently, a Boeing 777 freighter, loaded with cargo, landed smoothly at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport in Ethiopia from Urumqi. This is Ethiopian Airlines’ 11th route in China. As the largest carrier in Africa, Ethiopian Airlines has operated up to 83 weekly passenger and cargo flights from Addis Ababa to 11 cities in China so far. Dereje Derero, Managing Director of Cargo and Logistics Services at Ethiopian Airlines, stated that: “ This is the first cargo airline connecting Africa and Xinjiang. And it will not only deepen cross-border commerce, but also enhance supply chain efficiency.”
For the launch of the airline, China’s foreign trade enterprises will integrate more easily into the African and global freight networks, benefiting the competitiveness of Xinjiang’s products in the international market. Also, Ethiopia and other African countries’ high-quality beef and mutton, premium coffee, specialty horticultural products, and other goods will be delivered directly to the Chinese consumer market.
