Analysis of African Cotton and Cotton Fabric Exports to China

From January to May 2025, China's imports of cotton and cotton fabrics from 17 African countries amounted to only 23.7665 million USD, representing a year-on-year decline of 96.5%.

Possible contributing factors may include the following: First, Chinese textile enterprises are relocating production capacity. Second, order volumes declined during the first half of the year, while inventory levels remained high. Third, the substitution of cotton fabric by chemical fiber has accelerated. Finally, the cotton industry in Africa has reached a development bottleneck.
