On June 18, 2025, during the cross-border bank-enterprise cooperation events at the China International Finance Exhibition held in Shanghai, Standard Bank officially joined as a direct participant of Cross-border Interbank Payment System (CIPS). This milestone marks Standard Bank as the first local financial institution on the African continent to be approved for directly providing cross-border RMB services through CIPS. Standard Bank is expected to officially launch its CIPS clearing and settlement service in September 2025.
