In
recent years, Kenya has faced development bottlenecks such as a single
industrial structure and weak logistics infrastructure, leading to a slowdown
in the growth rate of trade between China and Kenya, despite the continued
increase in trade volume. However, China's infrastructure and agricultural
cooperation with Kenya have achieved significant results. The completion of the
Mombasa-Nairobi railway has effectively reduced transportation costs, and
agricultural technology assistance has enhanced the international
competitiveness of Kenyan agricultural products, gradually stabilizing and
improving bilateral trade. Despite this, Kenya still maintains a trade deficit
in its trade with China.
In
2024, China's imports from Kenya mainly consisted of copper scrap, titanium
ore, nuts, coffee, and tea. Chinese exports to Kenya were concentrated in
textiles, steel products, electrical and communication equipment, and
construction machinery, further supporting the development of Kenya's
industries. The trade structure between the two countries is complementary,
with mutual advantages.
