At the invitation of Hangzhou office of China-Africa Business Council, on 12 October, The Nigerian Consul General in Shanghai, His Excellency Ambassador Mr. Anderson Madubike, visited Hangzhou, and took part in the “Belt and Road” Forum on Yuhang Enterprise: An Approach to Africa - “Concentric View” ZhiGong Party Session. Meanwhile, The Consul General also met with the Vice Mayor of Hangzhou, Ms. Chen Hongying.
As the largest economy in Africa, Nigeria has more than 180 million people. It is China’s third largest trading partner and second largest export market in Africa. It is also China's gateway to West Africa and indeed the whole of Africa, which is of strategic significance to China as the second largest economy in the world.
Calabar is an important port city in Nigeria with a population of 126,000. It is now a trading and processing center and one of the major export port for rubber, palm oil, palm kernel and copra. Calabar also has a well developed offshore fishing industry and also boast of cement, timber and shipbuilding industries.
H.E. Mr. Anderson Madubike said that the city of Calabar would be interested in establishing a sister city relations with Hangzhou to open up exchanges and cooperation in various fields, such as tourism, trade, culture, etc. The CG also gave a briefing on his willingness to further promote the bilateral cultural exchange between China and Nigeria.
