Chinese-Contracted Mojo Dry Port Expansion Project Completed in Ethiopia

The expansion project of Mojo Dry Port, contracted by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), was completed in Mojo, Ethiopia, on September 10. Covering approximately 67.8 hectares, the project serves as an important logistics hub along the Ethio-Djibouti trade corridor. Its completion will increase the dry port’s annual cargo handling capacity from 520,000 TEUs to 1.6 million TEUs and reduce cargo dwell time from up to 60 days to eight days. Prime Minister H.E. Abiy Ahmed Ali stressed that the expanded dry port would enhance cargo handling capacity and transport efficiency, helping reduce logistics costs. H.E. Sun Mingxi, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia pointed out that the project is an important supporting facility for the Ethio-Djibouti railway and will further improve Ethiopia’s inland logistics while promoting economic development along the railway corridor. The project cost approximately US$110 million and was financed entirely through a World Bank loan.
